1) Peak flow meter.
- It is use to measure patient’s maximum speed of expiration or Peak expiration flow rate.


2) Two indication of the peak flow meter
a) Self monitoring of asthma control in asthmatic patient
b) Monitoring of effectiveness of nebulizer therapy (reading taken pre and post nebulizer)


3) Technique of using the peak flow meter
a) Attach the mouth piece to the end of peak flow meter
b) Set the marker to zero
c) Position the patient (standing or sitting up right)
d) Do a breathing exercise (2-3 times)
e) Place your lips tightly around the mouthpiece and keep the peak flow meter horizontal to the floor. Make sure that your hand did not cover the scale and the scale is facing upwards
f) Take a deep breath and blow as hard and fast as possible for 2-3 seconds to empty your lung.
g) Read your score on meter
h) Put back the marker to zero.
i) Repeat the measurement for two more times and take the highest reading as your peak flow expiratory rate value.
